Pocket Healing Birds – Bronze, are hand made in clay , then cast in solid bronze , filed & fettled. Michael then adds a black patina or more golden bronze look. Over time with handling the birds absorb the oil from hands and become a darker colour.Inspired by Michaels Grandfather these birds are sure to delight. Comes complete with wooden box and the unique story of how the healing birds came to be.

Pocket Healing Bird- Clay

Pocket Healing Birds in clay are hand made using the simplest of tools and fired using the finest local speckled clay. Inspired by Michaels grandfather they are the perfect gift to give when someone is unwell or needs some extra care. Treasure thy nest #3 is made from repurposed rusty barbed wire a soft flax shreded bed forms the base of the nest & New Zealand Flax is used to feather the rest of the nest. Michael explores nest making in this 3 piece limited “Nest series”. Approx size 48 cm wide by 22 high.

The Pod Series #1 Sculpture

This Pod is made of recycled Barrel Bands sourced from the nearby Neudorf Vineyards It holds 3 large polished Aggregate(concrete) Balls, which act as large seeds. Copper blobs cover the surface of the inside of the pod and it has a large steel handle that can be turned left or right. Large solar light balls could be added to make this pod glow at night.

Catch of the day Sculpture

Catch of the day is a mixed media one off sculpture. It contains concrete, metal, mild steel and copper and is the largest sculpture in my “Nest” series. It is designed for the outdoor garden. It features 3 handmade fish that hang ready to eat once the bird returns to its nest. Swallows nest’s and other bird nests in the area were the catalyst for this series. Approx 3 mtrs to the highest branch. Branches consist of mild steel and have been infused with copper. The entire sculpture sways gently in the wind as do the fish.

Together Sculpture

The Together Sculpture signifies two people coming together into the future and beyond. A relationship, a union . The Abstract form has beautiful curves and dimples to reflect both the male and female bodies.The Male with the protecting arm and the female with the larger curvaceous hip.
Made from concrete/ polished aggregate it is sublimely smooth to the touch and sits on top of a large corten steel plinth.
